I always like to start off an album with a song that has a good vibe to it. One that moves and has an uplifting message. This song first started out as a music bed for an audio commercial. It was very short and didn't have any percussion to speak of. Well the commercial never made it to the airwaves but I kind of liked the feel of the piece so I added some ethnic percussion textures in and created a kind of upbeat minstrel street vibe to it. Originally there was piano in it but well you really couldn't drag a piano around in the street so I decided on adding violin/fiddle. I had a working title "Beat of Desire". I wanted to make the lyrics kind of uplifting, a kind of journey of what I was seeing - lost souls, people searching for meaning, a wanting to figure out what our lives are all about. I can't say I know where the answers are but I know that they are there for us, we just have to know where to look. That's kind of the journey.

Guest Musician - Ryan McKinley of "The McKinley Boys" Band played fiddle/violin. He melded his style into the texture of the song and did a great job. Thanks Ryan.

whats to believe in ?
many have been searching all their lives
chasin dreams to live in
you can see it in the hope of each other’s eyes
who knows the secret to life ?
I’m takin it to the streets, askin every one I meet
driven by the beat of desire

look to the future
you can make it happen if you try
let your heart be your guide
for it will take you where you want to go
if you believe in what you’re doin and trust in what you know
now I’m takin it to the streets  a word to everyone I meet
listen to the beat of desire
I’m takin it to the streets  askin everyone I meet
are you driven by the beat of desire ?

cause we’re ordinary people holdin out our hands
ordinary people doin the best we can
ordinary people just tryin to understand
so I’m takin it to the streets,  askin everyone I meet
driven by the beat of desire

for once in my lifetime
nothing really matters anymore
well I just didn’t know what I was lookin for
but somehow its been there for me
now I’m takin it to the streets  a word to everyone I meet
listen to the beat of desire
I’m takin it to the streets,  askin everyone I meet
are you driven by the beat of desire ?

cause we’re ordinary people holdin out our hands
ordinary people doin the best we can
ordinary people just tryin to understand
so I’m takin it to the streets,  askin everyone I meet
driven by the beat of desire
I’m takin it to the streets askin everyone I meet
takin it to the streets somehow driven by the beat
takin it to the streets yes I’m takin it to the streets
driven by the beat of desire
