How I Met Your Mother

May 8th, 1993

Bored and with nothing to do that evening, I decided to go to see some friends playing at a beach town bar in Avila Beach called Mr. Ricks. I strolled up to the front entrance and there was a line outside. I decided to get in line. As I was waiting patiently to enter, a beautiful woman walked out for some air and complimented me on the shirt I was wearing. I thanked her and continued waiting in line as she walked back in. I finally got in and started watching the band.

Meanwhile this woman was at the the bar with her friend and they were sitting there talking to two local gentlemen. The four of them were in a deep conversation on relationships, past lives, biology and attraction. This woman who I had met outside had this theory about people and biological attraction. She theorized that a person has a "type" that you are physically attracted to and that it is inherently in our genes that you are drawn to that type. So one of the gentlemen asked her, "so then who in this room do you see that you are attracted to?" She looked around the room for a bit then she pointed to this gentleman with the long black hair. "You mean Doug? I know that guy". Well the conversation went along for a bit but the guy she was talking to decided he had to go to the restroom. Well this lady stood up, looked around and decided to test her theory out so she walked over and stood behind him. I was talking to a someone at the time so she patiently waited till he was done talking. I felt a presence behind me, turned around and there was the beautiful woman I met outside. I asked, "Can I help you?". She asked if I wanted to join them at the bar and talk. Well, we talked about the conversation the four of them were having and she explained her theory of attraction and soul rebirth. Through eons of time, we are born and cross paths with each other through rebirth and death. We are destined to find each other again and again.

It's a nice theory. Who knows if it really is a biological or a spiritual reality? It seems to work for us.

ANCIENT RENDEZVOUS

An eye to a soul, a face within a room
Attraction guaranteed or so the theory goes
Of a hundred, of a thousand, there are but a few
Chance or fate? It’s tho’ biology knows
By some primal reason
The spirits of our lifetimes intertwine
To find each other in the night

All I need, I get from you
Nothing is in doubt, I’ll never be without
For all I want, I want from you
Dancing to an ancient rendezvous

Conversation, intuition, slowly coincide
Ambience is transient as all thoughts fade aside
And in a moment of pure submission, a dawning deja vu
Nothing can deny our rendezvous
Not just conjecture
But a conformation of postulates surmised
We are the proof of what we seek

All I need, I get from you
Nothing is in doubt, I’ll never be without
For all I want, I want from you
Dancing to an ancient rendezvous

It seems that time is interwoven by our dreams
Tied together, bound forever thru certain memories
Tho’ flesh has spun a web of chance, our spirits weave the flow
It makes no difference how the world goes

All I need, I get from you
Nothing is in doubt, I’ll never be without
For all I want, I want from you
Dancing to an ancient rendezvous,
Nothing can deny our rendezvous
